Though many pray for the arrival of Messiah, it seems few can agree on what to look for. Various traditions have created many different expectations that often compete with each other. In this series, we'll explore some of these ideas.
For much of the last few years, a majority of my study and conversations on the topic of Messiah have been nuanced to the concealed mission of the Josephic Messiah¹.
I feel it is time we begin to shift our focus toward understanding the tradition surrounding the Davidic Messiah.
Two Messiahs
Tradition teaches that the Josephic Messiah² has been working for quite a long time behind the scenes, paving the way for the arrival of the "King" Messiah, Ben David. While many pray daily for the arrival of Messiah, I find there are vastly different expectations of what this may look like.
As exciting as this can be, it is also a matter clouded with mystery, uncertainty, and a healthy amount of fear.
In this short series, we will look at why this is the case and explore some general ideas from the tradition we should be aware of.
New Testament Foreshadowing
I will say at the outset that the New Testament is not a great source to learn about the tradition of the Davidic Messiah, and here are a few reasons why.
