As a kid, I remember lying in the rectangular-shaped sunspots that would stream through the windows of our house on summer days. Finding a wide enough patch of sunlight, I would close my eyes and envision myself at the beach. With the brightness of the sun, the warmth, and a little imagination, the sounds around me would fade - and for a moment - my senses were convinced I was there.

I didn't know it at the time, but this would become a foundational tool for meditation later in life.
